Spending your initial resources (for example: immediately building a monument to increase early unity gain and rush traditions, getting a trading hub in your starting starbase, etc.). If you focus on building your little empire too much and loose yourself in 2 or 3 parts of the 4x gameplay, you'll not keep up with the AI, since one or two empires will conquer their neighbours and snowball out of control eventually. Worst thing you can do is get complacent. The more you optimize your first few years, the more systems, resources, tech and fleet power you will have, which means earlier and earlier conquests, which means even more territory, resources and so on. If you want to get better at the game you have to understand that this game hugely emphasises snowballing. Best course of action would be to find that sweetspot, where you feel like you can still manage, but you also feel challenged by what the game throws at you. That's OK!Īs most things in life, getting better at the game takes practice, actively seeking out information and on the highest level a bit of math and min/maxing. This game gives you all the freedom you could ever want to play it how you want to. I played Master of Orion 2 for a long time on easy or medium before ever trying impossible difficulty years and years later. ![]() Play the game however you want, if this thread isn't for you, that's totally fine. ![]() This is mostly aimed at newer players and anyone who feels like they "have to save-scum" and avoid ironman or higher difficulties because they cannot keep up, but are interested in improving their gameplay. I just wrote a rather long comment trying to explain a few concepts on how to get better at the game and figured it's probably too much for a single comment, so I'm making this post instead.
